Emergency Lighting Inspections throughout British Columbia

Emergencies can be a disorienting, panicked situation where it’s important to act quickly and efficiently. That’s why it’s so important for your facility to have emergency lighting to help direct individuals to safety in the case of an emergency. At Pacific Coast Fire Equipment we can provide emergency lighting inspections throughout British Columbia. The most vital aspect of your emergency lighting is whether or not it can function properly during an electrical failure. We can provide inspections that will check to see whether your lights can function for a minimum of 30 minutes during a simulated blackout, and we’ll also check to see whether your charger is functioning optimally. For more information about emergency lighting inspection, browse the information below or give us a call.

Inspection Requirements

According to the National Fire Code of Canada, self-contained emergency lighting unit equipment shall be inspected at intervals not greater than one month to ensure that:

  • Pilot lights are functioning and not obviously damaged or obstructed

  • The terminal connections are clean, free of corrosion and lubricated when necessary

  • The terminal clamps are clean and tight as per manufacturer’s specifications

  • The battery surface is kept clean and dry

Testing Requirements

According to the National Fire Code of Canada, self-contained emergency lighting unit equipment shall be tested:

  • At intervals not greater than one month to ensure that the emergency lights will function upon failure of the primary power supply

  • At intervals not greater than 12 months to ensure that the unit will provide emergency lighting for a duration equal to the design criterion under simulated power failure conditions

Upon completing the simulated power failure test, the charging conditions for voltage and current and the recovery period shall be tested to ensure that the charging system is functioning in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
